6-3-11

We slept in today. It was so quiet here, no one really knew what time it was. Plus we are all getting over a little bit of a cold. So the sleep helped.

Todays destination was Longwood Gardens. It is a huge garden designed and built by Piere DuPont. It is beautiful and amazing. There are tons of outdoor gardens including two lakes, an Italian fountain garden, three tree houses, a topiary garden, several rose gardens, a flower garden, a fountain court, woods, meadows, waterfalls, stone bell towers...then there is a giant indoor conservatory with even more gardens including an amazing kids garden. We started by walking the outdoor gardens and exploring the tree houses.

Jack was really into the beehive that they set up in one of the tree houses. It was a real hive in plexiglass, the queen was marked with a dot, and you could listen to the sounds as you watch them come and go from the hive.

When we reached the conservatory we spent most of our time in the children's garden. Lucca had a blast playing in the whimsical fountains and neither wanted to leave.

When we pried them away, we went and checked out the water lily garden and the 10,010 pipe pipe organ. Unfortunately my camera ran out of batteries right after leaving the children's garden, so there are no photos of that stuff ( except for these iPhone photos)

There was a ton more to see and we spent most the afternoon strolling the grounds and marveling at the spectacular place. After buying some great books in the bookshop, we left.

On the way back the kids slept in the car, so we just drove and took in the beautiful countryside. I never expected to be this taken by Pennsylvania.

After dinner the campground hosted a flashlight candy hunt. They hid a bunch of candy in a field and Jack went and found a bunch. A nice ending to another great day.
