6-13-11 Day 63

This morning we took a short drive from our camp, up a dirt road, in the rain, to a neat little place called Sugarbush Farms. It is a working maple syrup and cheese farm. They have over 500 acres and something like 6000 maple trees that they tap for the mapley goodness the trees provide. We basically just wandered the farm and read the info about the process of making maple syrup. We even got to tour the sugar shack where they boil the sap to get the syrup. (jack now knows how to make chocolate, cheese, ice cream, and maple syrup)

The setting for the farm is amazing and it was nice just waking around, although we did get sprinkled on a bit.

They also had a few animals to pet and feed. Jack liked feeding the chickens, while Jordan and I were fond of the goats and calf.

After we were done with the animals we headed into the shop where they were wrapping the cheese. In here we got to sample several different types of cheese as well as the 4 different grades of maple syrup. Luuca loved all the cheese Jack loved all the syrup. Of course we ended up buying a bunch of cheese, some syrup, maple candies, and some crackers. Before we drove off, we had lunch of, you guessed it, cheese and crackers. Yum.

On the road we entered New Hampshire which is quite an amazing state. Really beautiful. We drove through some very "New England" towns, and through lots of amazing forests. We kept hoping for some moose sightings as there were warnings all over the road. But we settled for seeing a little red fox, and a bunch of cows.

We stopped for supplies in a town called Littleton. It was the best grocery store we have been in in weeks. Shortly after leaving the store we took a detour from our original driving route based on a recommendation from Kay. We headed towards an area called Franconia Notch which is really spectacular. After a wriggling our way out of a tent only campsite that we did not belong in, we ended up at a really nice site right off the road. We didn't expect the view that we ended up with.

After feeding the ducks, and a quick game of pool at the rec room Jack didn't hesitate in getting his clothes off and jumping right into the creek.

There are things called black flys here and they had their way with the kids. Making both of them bleed like crazy. We even had to pull one out of Lucca's ear. Luckily our neighbor had a bit of spray that seemed to help. I started a fire and cooked some chicken.

Unfortunately as we ate the chicken the fire was put out by a heavy downpour of rain. Oh well there is always tomorrow. After some Late Night Snack, we blog. Now to watch some 30 rock and sleep.
