5-8-11

Happy mothers day. Waking up in a hotel was glorious. We had hot showers, soft beds, and room for everyone to stretch out. We will be doing this at least one time per month from here on out. We even found our new favorite dive chain restaurant, Waffle House. Which was right next door to our hotel. Jordan was feeling better so we set off to Memphis... On the way through Arkansas we saw lots of beautiful property, as well as some less pleasant things. The amount of road kill in this state is crazy...Armadillos, opossum, deer, raccoons, turtles, what looked like a small bear? We also saw the leftover destruction of a recent tornado and the more immediate flooding of the White and Mississippi rivers. In fact we had to take a pretty significant detour to get to Memphis because the main interstate was closed, as well as several alternate routes. (sorry for the lack of photos, camera still broken)

After driving in 3 states, we were greeted by a huge Yogi Bear statue when we pulled into Jellystone park in Mississippi 5 minutes south of Memphis. This is our home for the next few nights. We went swimming in the pool, played at the playground, and even got a after dark visit from a friendly (drunk) local "Britney" who freely used the "n" word.

Welcome to Mississippi y'all.

I can't believe the flooding is so bad that highways are still closed. That's sad. Glad you can still get through. Drive safe!
