Life on the road (pt 1)

There are so many things to tell you about our trip and what we are seeing and doing, we thought we would make some random posts about what life is actually like out here with two kids and a big dog.

Driving- We are obviously in the truck a lot. Some days are good, meaning we are moving with no real challenges. Some days we are stopping every ten minutes for a break, diaper change, pee, toy recovery, and sightseeing.
Jack is pretty good at looking out the window and taking in the scenery. He has discovered that he likes to wear his ipod "truffle" (Jordans old workout ipod shuffle) and stare out the window. Hu usually falls asleep while doing so. He also keeps himself entertained with wikisticks and whatever other toys are brought for the day. However, if he seems to run out of entertainment he start to covet Luccas toys and then the whining starts.
Lucca usually just eats...literally, if she is awake she wants to snack. It might not all get eaten, most the time it will end up on the floor. She will scream herself to sleep during her normal nap times, which can be unnerving for everyone. When she is asleep, we are all walking on eggshells and stoping at signals or for gas can be a challenge. She is getting better at not waking up every time the car stops. The only thing that seems to entertain her aside from food, are a couple of books.
Lola is great she is just happy to be with us. She shares the truck bed with a couple of generators and her food bin, thats it. She has the most room of any of us. She even is known to just hang out in the truck wherever we are camping.
Paul is getting better at pulling the trailer. At first it was rocky and stressful. not knowing where the rig would fit, where to park etc. That stress is contagious and not good for any of us. Paul has driven all 2117 miles so far.
Jordan seems to keep everything from dropping into complete chaos in the car. She is constantly turning around to provide snacks, pick up dropped toys, water, blankets etc. She hasn't had to actually get in back yet. Which is a good thing because there is hardly room with the amount of junk. She did just throw her back out this morning from always sitting sideways in her seat. That could also be because she is the leader of most of the in-car dance-offs (of which Jack rarely participates).

A few of the main lessons we have learned so far are:
1. always stop at the ranger station to make sure the campgrounds you are going to are open. Also to get a local map and find out what highlights are in the area.
2. always have enough snacks.
3. don't drive past 3:30. this for some reason seems to be the magic hour when everyone starts to lose it.
im sure this list will grow as we continue our life on the road.
