5-6-11

We arrived at the zoo and found 30 school busses of kids. I was kind of thinking that this zoo was going to be small and quaint, but no. It was very crowded and weird. It seemed that there were more attractions than animals. Things like bounce houses and play structures, and the largest jungle gym in the state. We finally found some animals and the school kids started to leave. The main reason we (and everyone else) went was to see the baby elephant. She was born on April 26th and was very cute. They had the baby, her mother and another female elephant inside a special area for people to see. The big elephants were hiding her very well, she would walk away from them and two seconds later they would have her covered. Lucca loved them! She was kissing the windows over and over and doing her sign for elephant. Her lovey is an elephant so I think she gets the connection.

After that we had lunch and checked out the rest of the zoo. It was actually a pretty nice zoo once the crowds left. Our favorite part was the Oklahoma Trails section. They had some huge grizzles and Jacks favorite, the river otters.

After the mandatory train ride we headed home with some tired kids.

And tired mama!

So any normal family would go home, have dinner, and then sleep. Well not us! Jordan had read about an elephant sanctuary in Arkansas that was just a little off of our route to Memphis. However, they are open to the public only the first Saturday of the each month....Tomorrow. So we hopped into the truck and set out on our first night drive. I heard that eastern Oklahoma is really nice, but we missed it in the dark. Though It was good to get to Arkansas and put a five hour drive behind us. We stopped at a really ghetto koa that was directly behind a truck stop where a classic rock cover band was blaring horrible music through the nite.

Ps. Lucca took two tiny steps today. She'll be walking in no time.
