5-9-11 Day 28

Paul Simon said it best..."For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me wants to see Graceland".

Neither of us is particularly that fond of Elvis music, or movies, but we felt we had to make the pilgrimage nonetheless. So we braved the rising floodwaters and headed out. ( there really was no flooding where we are in Memphis. Not as bad as the news would have you believe). The mansion itself was much smaller than I envisioned. However, the cheesy 70's decor surpassed my greatest expectations. Down to the green shag carpet on the floor, walls, and ceiling in the "jungle room".

We seriously got our Elvis fix. There were i think 6 different gift shops, all with different memorabilia and Elvis nick nacks. We even toured his airplanes and saw his car collection.

After burgers and elvis' favorite grilled peanut butter and banana, we set off to another land of cheap plastic Americana....Target. To get some necessities.

After naps we enjoyed time on the big bouncy pillow thingy that they have at our park. We also spent some time in the pool. It was hot here today!!

Afterwards we ventured out into Memphis in search of some authentic BBQ. After a disappointing detour to a closed restaurant in a sketchy neighborhood, we found a great place with amazing ribs and pork sandwiches. The kids loved it too.

With full bellies, we drove over to Beale st. There was a game going on at the big sports arena so we couldn't park to get out. We'll try again tomorrow night. Back at our camp, we enjoyed listening to the loudest frog/ cricket chorus I have ever heard. Good night.
